Explore the Making of ‘Death Stranding’ with Hideo Kojima Documentary
Hideo Kojima, a highly acclaimed video game designer, will be the subject of an upcoming documentary. The trailer for Hideo Kojima: Connecting Worlds provides a glimpse of what viewers can expect.
Kojima wrote on Twitter that the film offers a behind-the-scenes look at the development of Death Stranding, as well as “footage from the early days of our independent studio, memories of my childhood and my creative journey.” The trailer sums it all up and suggests that the film is a celebration of Kojima and his work. Friends, collaborators and fans including Geoff Keighley, Guillermo del Toro, Norman Reedus and George Miller talk about Kojima and his credentials.
Whether Kojima is truly the “first auteur of video games” is open to debate, especially if you believe that the auteur theory is inapplicable to the highly collaborative game development process. Still, it cannot be denied that Kojima is a pioneer in his field. He’s a fascinating guy, behind some of the most memorable and inventive games of the last few decades, which makes him good documentary fodder.
PlayStation Studios and Kojima Productions helped produce Hideo Kojima: Connecting Worlds, which has no release date yet. The film will premiere at the Tribeca Festival on June 17, and Kojima will participate in a Q&A. In the meantime, we may hear more about Death Stranding 2 during the Summer Game Fest.
